Really good job on this one, I dont know what its scored for but the arrangement sounds beautiful and the mixing and sample choice sounds like like it would be supportive without being intrusive to the game etc. Out of curiosity what strings did you use ?

Dylnmatrix responds:

Thanks man! We used Furia Staccato Strings by Impact Soundworks.

This track precedes the hard hitting complextro track, Isolation, which I've got a preview up on my page. Both tracks are technically one but work separately just as well.

Nice, i really like how future bass has a lot of scope for creativity. I like the sound design and Vocal sample instrument goes really nicely together. I feel there could be more energy in the build up at 1.56.. a kick drum alone didnt really do it for me.

The breakdown at 1.08 was nice, reversed sounds are always fun. I think overall the melody/motif gets a little repetitive and it could of done with a chord change in there somewhere to give it a a new lease of life. Dont worry this is something i am guilty of in my own future bass tracks.

NevoMusic responds:

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it!

I like the riffage going on in here but guitars sound pretty muddy even for this style. At around 1.14 the guitar sounds out of tune i dont know if this was intentional but it doesnt sound pleasing to the ears. drums sound pretty good overall but could do with some more high end info.

ORI-TAGGART responds:

Thanks for the feedback man!

Yeah I noticed the guitar sounded out of tune as well and I should probably see how did it even ended up like that. I'll take in consideration the rest as well.

Im not sure what to say about this but when that vocal cut comes in at at 0.35 its sounds weird as hell. like the melody is fine but the sample you use sounds odd but also very muddy. The chord progression is cool, sounds like something from radiohead for sure.

I can barely hear the kick drum at all so i would say you need to make that more present with eq/subtle sidechaining etc. The snare sounds like it has a little too much reverb on it in the lower freqs, would recommend putting the verb on a send then eq the send to remove everything below 120 hz. The lead sounds that come in could also use some eq to clean up the lower end too.
Those are the most noticable things in terms of the mix though, Arrangement wise i would say use some subtle filtering here and there too make it more interesting and use maybe some foley sounds to give some sections more character.

Okey dokie. Thank you for a thorough review :-)

i likey

larrynachos responds:

thanks! I'm pretty happy with this one myself

Hey welcome back, nice track. I like the piano parts most, i think those work really well. I feel the clap was a little underwhelming and i know its chill step so you probably don't want anything too crazy but i feel like layering some foley around/under some of those hits it would of gave it some more character and added to the overall organic feel this piece has. Other than that great stuff!

EctiBot responds:

Thanks for the feedback :).
I've been having issues with my claps in relaxing pieces like these as I haven't fully grasped how to make it sound calm yet full at the same time. Guess I gotta try again :). Glad you liked it :D.

The sounds are quite nice and rich an well recorded but i'm guessing you didnt actually have a hand in the sound design? The second instrument that comes in at 0.33 is way too loud and overbearing, so i would recommend lowering it in the mix and maybe eq out some of the highs as its a little harsh. Those drum beats are nice but the kick could be a bit louder and punchier, i can barely hear it under the keys(try some subtle sidechaining).

*Arrangement wise you could add more variation so its not just the same four chords repeating, try adding some different chords from the same key for a breakdown section for example. You could also make use of filter automation during transitional parts to add some tension and excitement.
Its quite hard to review this because you said you used that site so im not sure how much of it was just loops slapped together nd how much of it was your hand.
3/5

Bromosome responds:

Yeah, all of it was just loops slapped together. I have zero money and can't afford anything better than free online stuff, so I can't quite do things that those with, say Fl Studio, and I totally agree about 0:33. I listened to it just now, and don't know how I missed that. Thanks for the feedback!

I think you will do well to follow the last reviewers advice because i would say the exact same thing. Music production is incredibly deep and i have only been at it for 3 years. I would suggest to spend most your time that you spend on making music on instead learning the following things: Music theory, mixing, your daw, sound design and of course arrangement of the kinds of music you enjoy. Youtube is your friend. For theory check out michael new https://www.youtube.com/user/Rhaptapsody

Start at the basics and work your way through gradually. He makes things easy to understand and actually quite fun. Your very young so you have lots of time to grow and get better.

NeuroPyrox responds:

OMG Michael New is the channel I've been looking for for AGES!
Thank you so much. I'm probably going to binge watch his videos for the rest of the Summer!

There's some pretty cool ideas in here, i like the use of guitar and the darker breakdowns. The kick is too loud though and is overpowering pretty much everything to the point where i cant hear the nice melodic bits very well. Also i think you could work with the velocities on the kick, i know its trance but it sounds very mechanical and ridgid which doesnt compliment the guitar work so much. Snare could also use some more presence in the higher freqs as it sounds a little distant. Overall though i like your arrangement and thinking outside the box with your choice of sounds so just a little more effort on the mix and bingo!

Dylnmatrix responds:

I personally can't hear the overpowering kick problems on my sound systems, but that could just be composer's ear talking. The velocity issue is mainly due to the layering of a live kick with an electronic one, the electronic one being prominent in the mix, and it has the sound I personally wanted for the kick, which may not be to everyone's taste due to the rigidness. Thanks for the review man!

I like how you bring the energy right down in the track then Build it back up again. Good use of dynamics, makes the track feel like a journey. Now im no expert on how orchestra tracks are mixed but it did sound ok to me but i felt the high pitched instrument at around 5.00 is too loud . A couple of other issues, one being that its too long ..If your gonna make something this long imo you need some different themes going on to keep the listener interested. Like something that contrasts to what you already have, whether it be a modulation or a change in direction.
It is pretty cheesey which is fine if you go in for that :) 4/5

Zechnition responds:

Thanks for your review! I'm going to go fix those issues now. =D
